Capitol Theatre

Situated just a 5-minute stroll from The Ultimo, this historic venue has variously served as a marketplace, a circus hippodrome, a movie palace, and now, one of Sydney’s premiere commercial theatres.

Since opening in its current form in 1995, the Capitol Theatre has hosted some of the biggest plays and musical productions in Australia, including Les Miserables, The Sound of Music, West Side Story, Mary Poppins, Priscilla Queen of the Desert, Wicked, Miss Saigon, The Lion King, and Mamma Mia!

If musicals aren’t your thing, the Capitol Theatre also welcomes a wide variety of dance, music, and other performers throughout the year. Previous names that have appeared at the Capitol include the Paris Opera Ballet, Diana Ross, the Stars of the Bolshoi, Blondie, Riverdance, and many others.
